Darrell Kurt Rambis was born on February 25, 1958 in Cupertino, California. He went to Cupertino High School, where his number is retired. Kurt went to and graduated from Santa Clara University.
After his graduation he played for on the AEK Athens BC team in Greece and won the Greek Cup in 1981. He then came to the NBA for a 14 year playing career spent mostly with the Lakers. He was a fan favorite due to his passionate play and his hard work ethic. He wore a thick moustache and thick googles giving him the nickname "Superman" from Chick Hearn, who was referencing to Clark Kent. Kurt won championships with the Lakers in 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988.
Kurt Rambis coached the Lakers in the 1999 lockout season and posted an impressive 24-13 record. The Lakers lost in the conference semifinals to the eventual champion Spurs team.
