Frank Hamblen played college basketball at Syracuse University. Immediately after his graduation in 1969 from Syracuse, he became a NBA scout for the then San Diego Rockets and after they moved the Houston Rockets.
He was a successful assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets (1972-1977), the Kansas City Kings (1978-1987), Milwakue Bucks (1988-1996), the Chicago Bulls (1996-1998), and the Lakers (1999-now)
During his years as assistant coach he became interim coach twice. The first time for the Milwakue Bucks in 1992 and the second for the Lakers in 2005 after Rudy T left for helath issues.
He has won a total of 5 championships. the first two with the Chicago Bulls (1997-1998) and the other three with the Lakers (2000-2003)
