Lakers announcer for 42 years
Chick Hearn is the greatest announcer of all time. All Laker fans grew up listening to his legendary voice. He announced for players like Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Kareem Adual-Jabbar, Shaq and Kobe Bryant.
Chick Hearn born Fran Dayle Hearn in Buda, Illinois in 1916. Chick started broadcasting for the Lakers after doing USC games on March 27, 1961. He was the Lakers broadcaster for 42 years. During that period he had a streak of 3,338 consecutive games without missing a single game. Chick was a father figure to many of the greatest Lakers like Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Magic Johnson.
Chick was loved by everyone and everyone knew he would never stop announceing. Former partner of Chick and Laker player "Hot" Rod Hundley said, "I knew he would never quit, that he was going to die with a mike in his hand." Chicks dedication was amazing as was what he did for the game. Below are a list of Chick-isms, some of which seem like common terms to us but Chick thought of them.
