Ronny Turiaf was born on January 13, 1983 in Le Robert, Martinique (an overseas department of France). At age 15 he moved to Paris and played for the under 18 national team. Ronny, along with Tony Parker, Boris Diaw and Mickael Pietrus, led the team to a championship in 2000.
Ronny left France to play for Gonzaga University in 2001. Ronny played all 4 years of college basketball before being drafted as the 37th overall pick by the Lakers in the 2005 NBA draft.
Shortly after being drafted team doctors discovered that Ronny had an enlarged aortic root. The Lakers paid for his surgery and in only 6 months he was back on the floor.
Ronny's heart condition is ironic because he plays with more "heart" then anyone else on the floor, bringing energy to the team through his play as well as through his cheerleading from the bench.
